I forgot to mention...

more bad news.

I forgot to tell ya'll about DJ getting hurt at work early Monday morning. He was hit by a crowbar in the chest (he works in a steel mill) and thank god only suffered minor injuries and had some stitches. His company is being rude about the whole thing, (of course...workman's comp crap). This morning he headed over to see the company doctor so he could be released to return to work. The ER doc said he was not to return until he saw the company doctor today. The boss called Monday afternoon and told him that he had to return on midnights that night. Of course he said no b/c he had a doctors excuse and didn't go in. This a.m. he went to see the company doctor and his boss came in and told him that he has 5 days off with no pay for insubordination for not coming in when they told him to. Jerks. Now he has to go through a hearing and fight it and hope to get paid for these, now 7 days off. :( At Christmas. Omg. Seriously what the heck is going on???

Talk about stressing out. I. Am. So. There.

Sorry about DJ. I wish you were here in California so I could give you advice. What his employer is doing is absolutely NOT allowed in California--there is a Labor Code that specifically prohibits an employer from discriminating against an employee injured on the job. I know I represent insurance companies and employers, but sometimes the employers are just so stupid!

I hope everything works out and that his pay is reinstated.

Good luck with everything--keep watching the snow and remember that people are thinking about you!

Hi Amber,
I forgot what forum I came across your blog at, but I wanted to say I'm sorry about all the cr@p you're going through right now. ANd at Christmas time too. My husband just recently found a job after being unemployed for almost a year, then got laid off two days ago. I work part time at a church run thrift store (free stuff!) and get paid under the table. I can take my 12 yr. old DD with me, since she is homeschooled. SHe also "works" in the store when her schoolwork is done, and she gets paid too.
Oh, and to introduce myself...

My name is Mary and I live in TN. I had gastric bypass in May of '05 and lost a bit over 100 pounds, but still needed to lose 4 pounds to hit goal. I never made it and gained 16 pounds instead. So now I am trying to lose a total of 20 pounds. I'll try harder after the holidays.
Praying for you and your family! Keep your chin up and remember, even the bad stuff is temporary.
Love,
Mary in TN
